Natural Bodybuilding Federation Rules

Peptide policies for drug-tested natural bodybuilding organizations.

Backed by 6 references

Introduction

Natural bodybuilding federations ban peptides, but they test differently. Some polygraph every competitor; others rely on urine and blood tests against the WADA Prohibited List. We checked each federation's site in October 2026. For the WADA rules, see the competitive sports rules overview.

Major Federation Policies

WNBF/INBF

Factor Policy
Drug-free period 10 years for peptides
Peptide status All synthetic peptides banned
Testing Polygraph + urinalysis
BPC-157/TB-500 Banned; TB-500 named
Failed test Lifetime ban

NANBF

Factor Policy
Drug-free period 10 years (joint NANBF/WNBF policy)
Peptide status All banned
Testing Polygraph + urinalysis

OCB

Factor Policy
Drug-free period 7 years for growth factors
Peptide status Banned per WADA list
Testing Polygraph-style screening + urinalysis
BPC-157 Named; 1-year window

INBA/PNBA

INBA/PNBA sets no fixed drug-free window. It tests urine or blood against the full WADA list and doesn't mention polygraphs.

IFPA

As of October 2026, we couldn't find a current IFPA policy, so its rules are unverified.

Specific Peptide Status

Clearly Banned

Peptide Status WADA 2026
All GH secretagogues Banned S2.2.4
IGF-1 variants Banned S2.3
HGH Banned S2.2.3
TB-500 Banned S2.3
BPC-157 Banned S0

Where Federation Lists Differ

OCB names BPC-157 in its 1-year class for experimental peptides, even though WADA lists it in S0. Neither WNBF nor WADA names melanotan II; as an unapproved drug it likely falls under S0 (our reading).

Polygraph Considerations

Factor Reality
Questions asked Use within the drug-free window
Consequences Disqualification if failed

OCB says growth hormone isn't easily caught by standard urine panels, and a clean urine test can't overturn a failed screening.

Practical Guidance

Situation What the rules say
Past peptide use Wait out the window
Considering peptides Untested divisions only
Medical need OCB waivers cover FDA-approved drugs only

What to Watch Next

WADA's 2027 list takes effect in January 2027. OCB and INBA/PNBA follow it directly, so changes reach their athletes without a separate federation update. WNBF's 2026 list says its GLP-1 window rises to 1 year in 2027. See also how professional leagues handle peptides.
